Social work & counseling

Help navigating decisions, benefits, and the emotional weight of a serious illness.

A serious illness affects everyone in the household, and it often brings difficult decisions and a lot of paperwork. LifeCare's licensed social workers help patients and families with both the practical and the emotional side of hospice care.

Practical help

  • Care planning and conversations about the patient's goals and wishes
  • Questions about insurance, Medicare and Medicaid benefits, and coverage
  • Connecting families with community resources
  • Help with paperwork and the decisions that come with a serious illness
  • Planning ahead when care needs or living arrangements change

Emotional support and counseling

Social workers offer a listening ear and counseling for patients and family members — for the stress, fear, and family dynamics that a serious illness can bring. They work alongside our nurses, chaplains, and bereavement counselors so that emotional, spiritual, and medical care fit together.

Support that continues

When a family is facing a loss, the social worker helps them prepare. After a death, our bereavement team continues to support the family with one-on-one support, support groups, and check-in calls for up to thirteen months.

Social work services are part of the hospice benefit and are included at no extra cost for patients covered by Medicare, Nevada Medicaid, and many private insurance plans.
