Nursing care
Regular visits from hospice nurses who manage symptoms, adjust medications, and keep families informed.
Hospice nurses are at the center of every LifeCare care plan. Our registered nurses and licensed practical nurses visit patients wherever they live — a private home, a family member's home, an assisted-living or skilled-nursing facility, or a group home — and work under the direction of our medical director and in coordination with the patient's own physician.
What our hospice nurses do
- Assess comfort at each visit and manage pain, breathing difficulty, nausea, anxiety, and other symptoms
- Manage medications related to the hospice diagnosis and adjust them as needs change
- Arrange medical equipment and supplies, such as a hospital bed, oxygen, mobility devices, and wound-care and incontinence supplies
- Teach family caregivers what to expect and how to help, so no one feels unprepared
- Keep the whole care team — and the family — informed as the plan changes
A nurse is always a phone call away
A LifeCare hospice nurse is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for urgent questions and support. Hospice does not provide 24-hour live-in care, but when symptoms change, visits can be increased. When symptoms cannot be controlled at home, the care team can arrange short-term continuous care at home or general inpatient care.
Covered by your hospice benefit
Hospice nursing visits are covered 100% by Medicare and Medicare HMO (Part A) and by Nevada Medicaid and Medicaid HMO plans. Many private insurance plans also cover hospice; our team verifies coverage and explains benefits before admission.
